This is Festool’s small one handed planer that is made in Czech. The ergonomics are very good and it is indeed easy to use one-handed to make stable flat cuts. It has ample power for its intended purpose. The planer is mostly well made and produces a particularly high quality cut that needs little sanding even in handwood like Oak. That is most probably due to the spiral action of rotor that shaves material rather than a perpendicular cut like most planers. It also has a single blade that means that you don’t have balancing issues. So far so good. I do have a couple of gripes however: The finish on the castings and assembly was not what one might expect, and this is something I have found before with Festool products made in Czech. The other more serious issue is the rebate guide design. The EHL 65 comes with a rebate guide and a depth guide is an option. Most of us will use a router for rebates but a rebate guide is supplied and it flexes more than it should as it is only located with plastic tangs in the body. Hence, if you rebate hardwood the guide plates will most likely run out of true. The bigger Festool planer has a much better guide design, and, for that matter, so has my 40 year old Elu! Overall: great for planing but not so great for rebates. Hence four stars as it is not a cheap tool. These do sometimes come up on amazon warehouse for a very good price.
