Description
The Irwin masonry drills bits are designed for fast and efficient drilling in brickwork, concrete and breeze block, especially with cordless drills. The single flute design ensures faster dust removal for increased drilling speed, with the unique, pressed diamond-ground carbide tip allows for aggressive cutting and the carbide tip design also ensures 20% longer life compared to previous Irwin masonry drill bits. The bits are made with a chrome vanadium body with high carbon content which allows more hardening and a stronger bit for maximum rupture strength.

I initially borrowed a set of these from a friend when I was working on mounting some heavy equipment on my garage wall. These bits went through the brick wall with absolutely no effort at all and didn’t seem to get any duller or slower regardless of how many holes I drilled.I must have drilled 100+ holes in the wall and they aren’t showing any signs of wear. These are significantly better than other masonry bits I have used in the past and I don’t see myself using any others going forwards. The case is nothing special but does a good job of keeping them together, so you’re never searching for one that has fallen out of the holder etc. It’s also nice and compact so fits into any drawer or on any shelf.Highly recommended, if mine ever wear out I would buy another set immediately.

Right let’s start with the case because some reviews say it’s hard open,It’s the easiest case on the planet to open if you look on the back of the case it shows you how to use it, SNAP the little blue tag off the bottom of the case then hold it like a mobile phone and slide the transparent lid down with your thumb, you will feel it stop about halfway down, it’s not supposed to come off all the way or the drill bits will fall out, slide it halfway then tilt the case towards you then choose the drill bit you require and slide it back together with your thumb,it’s a very clever design :)And not much to say about irwin tools because there quality far exceed the price.

Good quality masonry drills that work well in a cordless drill and require minimum effort. I was so impressed that I bought a second set for my son. The only niggle was that the drill case was too long to fit in his cordless drill case, so I chopped the top bit off with a hacksaw – problem solved.

I am now on my 4th set of these although the first 2 were smaller sets only going up to 8mm. The great thing about these is that they drill most substances without hammer action. In fact hammer action on the smaller sizes will almost certainly destroy them. Up to recently I used mine for commercial installations and the majority of the ones I’ve lost have been wrecked by “workmates” who don’t understand that they do not need high speed hammer action. I’ve also given sets to friends and relatives who are amazed at their wide range of uses. My favorite is to use them for fixing battens when it is possible to drill a clean hole through the batten then straight into the wall, they are ok for drilling glass, tiles and aluminium but I wouldn’t use them for ferrous metals. One amazing characteristic is that, if they get blunt, it is quite easy to restore the cutting edge with a grinding wheel in much the same way as a high speed drill. The smaller ones can loose their tips on coarse aggregates which may jam the drill with unfortunate effect. I still have the larger drill from earlier sets but have bought new again to replace the smaller ones and the case. I’ve used mine to drill concrete slabs, godfathers, limestone blocks and clay paviours. the only substance which has defeated them was some very hard floor tiles but then I had nothing else which did any better and they did eventually go through.IMPORTANT!I gave away my last set after about 4 years of use but still in perfect condition but, on reordering these, I find that they are not the same. The tip grinding is now like a traditional hammer bit whereas the originals it was more like a HS tip and would drill through wood and even aluminium. Why?

A very handy set of masonry drill bits containing all most commonly used sizes. Bought it initially to put up a satellite dish but used it since then for various other jobs. Having this set for 6 weeks it’s hard for me to comment on longevity of these bits but so far they remain sharp and they look high quality. The only problem is the plastic case which is supposed to slide off but at the minute it’s very stiff and its easier to pry it open.Overall I think the product is worth the money I paid.

Drilling into hard stone or concrete can be heavy going with conventional drill bits and a cordless drill. I’m not sure how these work so well but they really do – they are significantly and noticeably better than even good quality conventional masonry bits. Apart from being easier to use, you get cleaner more accurate holes and fewer broken bits, as you need less brute force to make it work.I thought I’d lost my first set, so immediately bought a replacement (and found the original set shortly after!). Even so, these are so good that I’m very happy to have a spare set as they are the best and most useful drill-bits I have. Very highly recommended.

The first but I used size 8 was ok in the solid wall. But used the size 5 and after drilling 3 holes the end snapped on the 4th hole.

I bought these drills after the masonry drills I had weren’t making any dent on the concrete brick wall that I needed to hang some pictures on. These drilled with ease, not even needing the hammer setting. NOTE: The case is an easy slide down type, don’t try and open as if it had a hinge or clips on, as this is tricky. Sliding the case top down and it works really easily. Definitely worth the money and great value.
