Had to extract a 5mm cap head bolt in work today so selected a 2mm drill bit from this set to remove with a small stud extractor. Cap head bolts are usually harder than hex heads so this was a good test to see whether the bits coped as you usually have to exert extra pressure when drilling and increase the chance of breaking the drill bit.I can report that the Irwin bit worked perfectly.The guy who blunted these bits needs to understand that he was trying to drill a much harder material than that used in the manufacture and coating of these drill bits. The comparison is that he was trying to drill a hole in a coconut with a drill bit made of ice.Well recommended at this early stage of use.

Absolutely amazing set of drill bits.I have used these extensively drilling all types of sheet metal.I have a 10.8v bosh professional drill and it chews through any metals with these bits up to about 5mm. Aluminium even thicker.Still have a really great cutting edge. I have paid a similar price for a single drill bit in the past which hasn’t performed as well as this hole set of drills.For the most part this is my go to set of drill bits unless I’m drilling ceramics or stone. They just go through everything and make really decent holes. Keep their edge for ages. Will be buying another set for backups/the future. Buy some – you won’t regret it.

Written review field asking for thickness and warmth lol .Irwin HSS TIN Pro drill bit set .I can honestly say that I didn’t realize how bad or blunt , my old HSS metal drill bits were until that is I bought and used this set . Went through cast iron table frame with ease . I was previously struggling with the old bits even spraying water on bit and surface area before trying to drill a hole . The final straw was being shot in the chest after the the last drill bit snapped in mid drill . Could have easily been my or someone else’s eye . Bought these Irwin bits . Couldn’t believe the difference . Did the job I was struggling wasn’t quite like a knife though butter , but compared with the old bits they certainly did . Can’t recommend these HSS TIN Pro drill bit sets enough . Thanks Irwin you have a new convert to Irwin products . If the rest of your products are as good as your drill bits 👍.

A really nice set of HSS drill bits in a compact robust case which fits in a tool box , a straightforward set none of those nuisance screw bits which are surplus to requirements ,Have managed to drill through 4mm steel bar with a 2mm dia drill bit , they usually snap or blunt after several cuts but this one did its job and is back in the box .Never used Irwin products before but very impressed with the quality of storage case and drill bits .

I threw away 15 old drill bits which I’ve had for some time and bought these. So far they have perfomed massively better than my old ones. I was able to to drill through thick steel, square section, hollow railings supports very easily which had defeated my old bits. So excellent so far, time will tell if they retain their sharpness.David

I bought these drills as I perceived them to be of superior quality.I had reason to drill throgh the blade of an old garden hoe, steel; about 4mm thick. But it blunted several of them and I failed to make more than an indentation on the second hole. In most cases this was the first time that they had been used, I tried resharpening them, though I would not claim to be an expert at that, but was still unable to drill it. Whether this was an exceptionally hard steel, I cannot be sure.I have sharpened them on a grindstone and they are fine for softer materials.
