Works a dream – a good sturdy piece of kit although I haven’t had it long and cannot comment on it long term. It is simple to use. I have tried it on oak, teak and spruce thus far and it coped with all of them really well providing an excellent finish. The one flaw is that you have to attach the dust extraction cover; it is supplied but it is not integral. Without it there are wood shavings everywhere; the thicknesser produces a lot! While, if you have space you might leave it attached, if, like me, you have limited space and restricted storage, the thicknesser folds nicely into a cuboid without the dust extraction cover and, thus, as such, I remove it every time. However, it is reasonably simple to attach and remove.

Have never owned a thicknesser before so this is a real luxury item for me. It is great to be able to pass various pieces through the planer and end up with them all the same thickness so easily. The quality of the planed surface is great but don’t expect it to make twisted wood flat and straight just by passing it through, you need a few other tricks to do that, which you will find on YouTube. Really solid and quite heavy, which I guess it needs to be in order to prevent the body distorting and compromising the action.Easy to adjust with the handle on top, but ease it round gently when you are getting to your required size as a quarter turn is still 0.5mm/.020″. I have no regrets about choosing Makita and would buy it again if I needed to.

An excellent piece of kit. That gives a superb finish, I have used it on reclaimed pitchpine ,It is easy to use ,the dust hood works well when not using a dust extractor,

Just got this for planing some 40mm oak boards that had cupped a bit, works perfectly and the finish is amazingly smooth considering it hasn’t even been sanded yet! Feels like a solid, well made piece of equipment and I heartily recommend it.

Looks like it’s a great bit of kit BUT the nut was broken in the one of the trays which holds the wood as it goes through, I can’t be bothered to send it back (too much hassle) so I’m going to try and drill it out and put new nut in..

I have been cutting planks from a variety of timbers and found hand planing time consuming and difficult to achieve good results.Although this is cited as portable it is really heavy and best set up on a bench of its own.It works well, grips the planks and feeds steadily with good finish.Chip outlet needs an 80mm hoseOverall happy with the purchase
