The outlet clogs up very easily, especially if you’re not connected to a vacuum system.. I tried using with a filter bag attached and it was a waste of time.

I have only just received this so this review is based on initial impressions.I will update in a few months.I’ve been wanting to buy a 18v planer for a while , but, as I knew this model was imminent, I waited for the release of this, the new brushless version.First impression is, wow, it’s a thing of beauty. Its a bit of a beast, has some real weight to it. Personally that makes me happy. I like a good heavy solid tool.Build quality is as I’ve come to expect from Makita. It’s very well put together. No gaps anywhere on the body.It comes fitted with the mini style blades. Full width ones are available, if required. It comes with a blade aligner, which you must use when changing blades.I have just had a play on some scrap wood and it eats through it.I can see that this is going to be used a lot.The depth now goes to 3mm versus the 2.5mm on the old brushed model. (Depth is adjustable in 0.1mm increments. Which I find incredibly useful. It means that the planer is perfect for using as a “sander”, saves hours in time). This really shows the extra power that is available with this brushless version.Like some Makita angle grinders, the plane will automatically switch between high speed and high torque mode, depending on the load it detects. It has the provision for the Bluetooth chip to automatically turn on your Makita vacuum, but this must be purchased separately. Not something that interests me at the moment, but always nice to have the option. It does have the very useful feature of you choosing which side the shavings are ejected. You just pull out the black stopper plug and swap it to the other side.Excellent for left handers like myself. There is a battery indicator on board, always handy, even if your batteries have their own indicator built in.Overall, my first impression is that this is a lovely capable tool that I would highly recommend.I have included photos of:The fence/guide.The blade setting tool, for when you change blades and the mini included blades.I must say, although I was initially a little disappointed that the full width blades weren’t included, in operation the mini blades have performed impeccably.Update: July 2020.Well, this has turned out to be everything I’d hoped. It’s performed impeccably in the months I’ve owned it.I’m still on the original blades, and they are still performing well.It is super smooth in action, just a joy to use.The original brushed Makita battery planer, had such great reviews when it came out, and to be honest, if you own one, I don’t think it’s worth you upgrading to this one, even though this is undoubtedly better. However, if you are in the market for a planer, I would pay the extra and buy this, the brushless version. It is a wonderful tool.I hope you find this review helpful.
